Back Page Photo IDs for Retired Officers |

Two retired Probation Officers, Ed Bright and Sam Zimmerman, recently wrote to past Vice President Dale Pinchbeck to report that retired Officers can obtain DOC photographic IDs.
Mr. Bright’s interest in obtaining the identification was spurred by Federal legislation that broadened the rights of active and retired law enforcement personnel to carry concealed weapons from state to state. The new legislation, known as “The Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2004,” contains several requirements, including the requirement for a photographic ID.
Mr. Bright’s request for such an ID apparently was the first such request, and he reports there was some initial uncertainty in the response from the Department. Virginia Law enacted July 1, 2004, however, clearly states “Upon the retirement of a law-enforcement officer, as defined in § 9.1-101, the employing department or agency shall, upon request of the retiree, shall issue the individual a photo identification card indicating that such individual is a retired law-enforcement officer of that department or agency.”
Mr. Bright now has his ID and suggests others who are interested in obtaining one contact the Richmond Office of Community Corrections. |
