The Journal
is a Quarterly publication of the Virginia
Probation and Parole Association. The newsletter provides the
Association with a means for keeping membership informed and providing
practical knowledge and updates
about field experiences.
A regular feature
of the publication is an Op-Ed column
titled “The Soap Box.” Contributions for this feature are welcomed,
and may be submitted for publication
consideration to the
Public Information Office.
Until December
2004, the Association newsletter was
printed and disseminated via mail. At the close of
2004, however, the
Association introduced the current electronic format with a new name
and logo design. The circular logo and image of a person moving from
behind bars that
appeared on the masthead of The Monitor gave way to a stylized
scale of justice that symbolizes the Association's commitment to
fairness, justice, and balance. At the same time, the new name -
The Journal - tacitly recognizes
that the concept of supervision endorsed by the Association, while it
includes monitoring offenders, entails a broad
array of services, collaboration, support, and treatment. |
