Each year at the annual conference the VPPA has the privilege of recognizing outstanding line and support staff with awards for excellence.  The Awards Presentation Ceremony is a valuable opportunity to honor these exceptional individuals and their inspirational achievement.

2022 VPPA SUPPORT PERSON OF THE YEAR – Anthony L. Parker, Headquarters
Presented to a paid person that has shown dedication, commitment and excellence in his/her performance of their job, as well as in the community in support of P&P staff and those we serve.

2022 SURVEILLANCE OFFICER OF THE YEAR – Mark Richardson, Abingdon – Smyth County Office P&P
Presented to a person who has demonstrated professionalism, dedication and excellence in their job and in their community.

2022 VPPA PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER OF THE YEAR – Jill M. Madison, Charlottesville P&P
Presented to a line officer whose efforts as Probation and Parole Officer and/or Senior Probation and Parole Officer have demonstrated professionalism, dedication and excellence in their job and in their community.

2022 K. BARRY SHEERAN VPPA MEMBER OF THE YEAR – Stephanie T. Boteler, Leesburg – Warrenton Office P&P
Presented to a VPPA member who has strived to promote professionalism, membership and growth within the association.

2022 LEADERSHIP AWARD – Cynthia R. Hughes, Roanoke P&P
Presented to an individual who goes beyond their role by leading people through change, motivating others to accomplish extraordinary things, creating a positive work environment and contribute to the long-term development of employees. This individual is highly respected because of vision, dedication and exemplary work record in the field of Probation and Parole.

2022 OLIVER BECKNER LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD – Erma Barnes Torrance, Suffolk P&P
Presented to a person who has dedicated their career to the field of corrections. This persons’ commitment to their profession has endured the test of time and has withstood the challenges of a very unique career.
